The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that it has resumed the repatriation of Ugandans who are stranded abroad due to Corona virus pandemic.
According to a Press Release Statement issued yesterday July 15th 2020 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Department of Public Diplomacy, the repatriation starts on Saturday July 18th 2020 with the Ugandans stranded in the USA.
The statement also indicates that, on the same day, Ugandans stranded in the Middle East country of Qatar will also be repatriated while those stranded in Canada will be repatriated on Sunday 19th July 2020.
The Press Statement which this Online Publication has seen indicates that additional information on repatriation flights will be communicated in the due course but all those who intend to be flown back to Uganda should get in touch with the Uganda Embassies in their respective countries.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to reiterate the commitment of the government to speed up the return of Ugandans who are stranded abroad due to Corona virus pandemic” the Press Statement reads in parts.
The repatriation of Ugandans stranded abroad was halted by the Ministry of Health two weeks ago to enable proper quarantine planning for the Returnees who had already arrived in the country.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary Ambassador Patrick Mugoya , about 2,500 Ugandans had reported to Uganda Embassies in various countries pleading with the government of Uganda to help and repatriate them.
